Tibetan Scholars Explain Classical and Modern Psychology

Professor Geshe Ngawang Samten, Former Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Tibetan Studies, Sarnath in Varanasi and Geshe Jangchup Choeden, Abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery in South India participated in a seminar titled, "Psychology: Classical and Modern."

The seminar was part of a five-day program jointly organized by the Tibetan Medicine and Astro. Institute (TMAI) and the Tibet House, Cultural Center of the Dalai Lama in New Delhi from October 23-27, 2015.

"Classical psychology is based on first person experience and modern psychology is based on third person experience through scientific findings, but science is yet to prove the first person experiences, and there are differences in the main goals of the two disciplines," says Geshe Jangchup Choeden.

Other speakers on different traditions were Venerable Pravrajika Divyanandapra, Ramakrishna Mission in Delhi and Ms. Asha Pillai, Director of WCCL Foundation, Pune.

The discussion was chaired by Dr. Sisir Roy, Quantum Physicist, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore.
